Quality painters. And cheap!

Yesterday, the fam came and got the living room and hall primed and painted along with priming the door in the living room. We took them to grab supper before Mom and Dad took Braska and headed home.

Here's the before (brown door) and the after (primed door, Sugar Beige walls, trim will be white). The color is so subtle, but I'm not going to change it to darker til we live with it for a while. Plus, I don't really care at this point. It's a good paint job and a nice color for neutrals, so it works fine.

Today Ryan and Julia helped me a great deal by packing up tubs of kitchen stuff and making a few trips over to put them away. Initially, I just started unloading stuff into any open cabinet, thinking I'd worry about organizing later. But it was quickly apparent that having less than half of the cabinets from our last house is going to be quite the challenge. So tonight, as Ryan and M went to a movie, Julia and I began to unload and try to reload in proper places. It became very frustrating. Moving is such a chaotic experience!

The other element is of course that I cannot reach (at all) the top TWO shelves in the cabinets. So I suppose I'll be keeping a step stool very handy. I'm trying to be optimistic, but I'm also realizing that yet another purging might be required.

The carpets were cleaned today. They look like they'll be much better, but still pretty worn in the traffic areas. For now, they will remain. At least, they are much cleaner. I just have a thing with carpet. You never KNOW it's clean. Hardwood can be swept and mopped and you KNOW it's good, even for a moment. But for now, we'll leave the carpet and maintain a no-shoes house to try and keep it as good as possible.

I also finished the stuff on the new front door today, too. They'll be out in a couple weeks. We bought a closet system to make the most of our master closet's "cozy" space. Things are coming along. We'll begin with some light move-in on Friday evening, then hit the big work on Saturday morning. Here's hoping for clear, cool, weather. (In August, in St. Louis. Yeah...who's dreaming now?!?)

  2. Braska and I are having a great time. She is being good and I am showing her off, like at church tonight. Everyone says she is so cute! She behaved great as she listened to papa teach.
I hope your siblings are behaving as well :o)

  4. Looks fabulous! I took a chance that the awful wallpaper in my bathroom would come off as easily as the stuff in your house did. And so far, it's working! I'm ripping off the top layer, and then spraying water onto the brown paper underneath and gently scraping it off in sheets with a putty knife. I might be ready to paint by this weekend! Don't you love home improvements?? :D

  5. Thanks for the compliment on the paint job, loved the pictures! Wish we had thought to take "before" pictures on our last furnace room project! Who is that funny old man in the red shirt at SteakNShake?

31 for 21: What to say

I have encountered plenty of people who ask "How old is she?" when Braska and I are out together here and there. They always guess her age about 5 months younger than she is, but that's ok, since that's what size she is. I have said several times that I can imagine it will bother me a bit more, although still not a huge deal, when she turns one next month and I see their reaction to that, as she still is in her car seat/carrier when we're in a restaurant or in a store since she doesn't sit up. Today, I met some friends for brunch. The waitress was a nice enough, very young girl, and she started cooing at Braska right away. That's nice. I don't mind, Braska likes the attention, and I'm proud of my cutie. The waitress asked her age, and I told her 11 months. She then said, "But she's not walking yet?" as she noticed that she was up to the table in her car seat/carrier. I just agreed and said, "Not yet." She said she h

Oh happy day, Less question mark!

As a follow up to yesterday's post, I got word today that we will NOT be assigned to the new guy, but we will have an experienced coordinator after all. I feel SO much better. I also learned some other info today that made me think I still have some kinks to work out, so I'll be taking care of that this next week. I'll be SO glad when this transition/IEP stuff is behind us. I want to do the very best I can, but there's part of me who wants to just hide and let it all happen without me.

Was there a line??

I assume that you went to vote, either today or earlier if possible. I expect that of you, know that straight up. How long did you wait in line?? And throw in the state you voted in, just for fun. I'm really curious if all areas have a big wait or if it's just the more congested ones. I voted Friday absentee/in person, and we waited about 15 mins or so. It moved VERY fast for a big line. There's just one place in our very populated county to do the absentee/in person voting, and it wasn't bad at all for what I thought it might be. If you haven't, GO VOTE people... again, please just know what you're voting for, either way. You may just have to live with your choice. God Bless America!!
