It's been forever, I know. Some of you are so wonderful to be asking about this coming back. I just got slack in keeping up since we got mired in this moving/baby baking/moving again thing. SO here we go! Get those pencils ready, kids.

This batch of RQ is inspired by some recent trips to the grocery or other retail stores.

1. How do you shop for groceries? Is it a family event? Always the lady of the house? Or is it the guy's job?

2. Women, does your guy go clothing shopping with you? Guys, what's your feeling about it?

3. Does Daddy have any preference about what the kid(s) wear? Hairstyles/hair length?

4. When you get home from the grocery store, do you rotate your canned items or others that you have duplicates of? (Like if you bought green beans but you still have a can in the pantry, do you take the oldest can out to put in the front to be used first?)

5. What about your parents? How do they shop? Do you see a generation difference?

The background... I have seen at least 8 different cases of man-following-woman-with-cart in my last two trips to the grocery store. I wonder why they are there. Did they plan to come to the grocery store? Did the wife just spring it on them after they had been somewhere else? Do they actually care what she's buying? All these that I saw sure didn't look like they wanted to be there. BUT I did see a couple of couples that looked like they were both actually shopping and working together to get the job done quicker. Now THAT would be a good thing to try.

Also, I spent some time this morning at the wonderful kids resale shop where we often find awesome things for Braska. There was a guy in there with the wife and two small kids. He was using the veto for shoes for the little girl and then clothes for the infant boy. I've never seen such a thing! The mom even looked at me while we were all looking at shoes and said, "Gosh, Dad's sure have an opinion, don't they?" I thought to myself, "Nope, not in my house... and not about kids shoes and clothes, no way." But I just smiled and politely laughed.

And finally, I found some cute maternity tops today at the mall, after totally striking out last week at the MATERNITY store. Makes no sense to me. Anyway... I'm weirded out by guys who sit IN the ladies fitting room area by the mirror. What if my outfit looks awful? Or what if it's totally unflattering? What if, what if, what if? There are a bunch of reasons why guys should have to stay outside so that we have the ability to consult our girlfriends for their opinion without worrying about being given the once over by random Mr. Dude.

So there you have it. Let's have a record number of responses/posts to welcome back the weekly Random Questions!!!

  2. Yay for Random Questions!

    1. How do you shop for groceries? Is it a family event? Always the lady of the house? Or is it the guy's job?

Our whole family normally goes together. Since we both work full time, time together is important to us. We have fun being together and try to make shopping as much fun as possible.

    2. Women, does your guy go clothing shopping with you? Guys, what's your feeling about it?

We normally shop for clothes all together too. I've been known to sneak away for a little me time and just shop on my own.

    Yes :)

    5. What about your parents? How do they shop? Do you see a generation difference?

My parents shop crazy! Usually one or the other goes, and they just get things randomly - sometimes they go almost every day. I'm more of a list gal and we like to shop on Friday nights to get it out of the way.

  3. 1.I usually LIKE to shop alone, since I can take my time and not end up with extra things in the cart. I do take at least one of the girls with me often. Hubby will stop by there for things if I need him to bring something home. He's good about that; but he usually ends up with extras :o)
2.The girls and I like to clothes shop. Hubby would go if I asked.
    3. Daddy doesn't really care what the kids wear, as long as it's decent.
4.I buy at salvage stores and yes, I rotate everything.
5.It's been a long time, but I seem to remember my mom doing most of the shopping alone. I don't remember going along very often, but I'm sure I must have. It just didn't make a mental dent in my brain.

  5. 1. How do you shop for groceries? Is it a family event? Always the lady of the house? Or is it the guy's job?

We are one of the weird couple shoppers. We AlWAYS go together and we usually leave the kids at home with the oldest brother. Most of the time we stay together, but other times we split up to get the job done faster.

    2. Women, does your guy go clothing shopping with you? Guys, what's your feeling about it?

Yes my husband always goes with me and he usually is the decider. Weird, huh? Occasionally he even shops for me and brings me home a few outfits. He has pretty good taste, too!

    3. Does Daddy have any preference about what the kid(s) wear? Hairstyles/hair length?

My husband is more particular about it than I am, but we usually both agree.

    4. When you get home from the grocery store, do you rotate your canned items or others that you have duplicates of? (Like if you bought green beans but you still have a can in the pantry, do you take the oldest can out to put in the front to be used first?)

    Ha! People do this???

    5. What about your parents? How do they shop? Do you see a generation difference?

Oh! A definite generation difference! My dad wouldn't get caught in the grocery store! I don't recall ever seeing him in the grocery store or ever shopping for clothes!

  7. Oh yay! It's back!

    1. I normally do the grocery shopping alonge. Sometimes hubby and the family come. It drives me crazy because he rushes me and keeps taking off with the cart. Lately, though, he's had to change his diet so it is helpful to have him come with me. I don't always know what to buy for him. Now that MA is old enough to babysit we can go by ourselves and it's kind of like a mini date. How sad is that?

    2. I shop on my own. He' always bugs me about cost. I'm pretty frugal and he's still a pain in the rear. One time I did have him go to Victoria Secrets with me. I was looking for a new nightgown. Only problem is, I'm a little too modest for most of their stuff. It was kind of weird having him in the fitting room with me, even though I have no problem changing in front of him at home.

    3. He gives comments on outfits for the girls, especially if they dress themselves and it doesn't match, but most of the time he leaves that to me.

    4. And no, I don't rotate the cans. But I usually get pretty bare before I shop. If we aren't using it, I'll have the kids take it to church. They do a collection of canned goods/non-perishables during mass.

  8. 1. Well, sometimes it is a family event, and sometimes it is just me and the kids. It all depends on the need at the time. Russ does enjoy going grocery shopping with me I think, just not when there are a lot of people around to fight pushing two carts full of kids and grocerys around. It usually happens on a weekday midmorning to avoid the rush.

    2. Russ HATES going clothes shopping with me....or maybe I just percieve him to hate it. I always feel rushed when he is there like I have to choose something fast becuase he is sitting out there hating it! I preferably like going by myself, or even with the kids if they are with me. However, given all that, I will say that when he is with me, I always spend more money becuase he is of the "Oh, just get it...it looks good, who cares what it costs, just get it" mindset:o)

    3. Since we have all girls, he NEVER picks out the clothes. Even if I were to leave before they wake up and not come home until the evening....they will STILL be in their jammies. Unless I pick out an outfit, set it out, and say "Put this outfit on", he won't do it. Thank God the older two can dress themselves! And hairlength...he could care less. He has stated if we ever have a boy (fat chance) they will not have long hair even though that is what is in style.

    4. Ha! Rotate? I'm lucky to get it in the right cabinet/lazy susan/fridge. I just throw stuff where it fits.

    5. My parents never have food in their house. They were always really organized when we were kids. I remember grocery shopping at Aldi's all the time and hated it becuase they didn't have "name brand food". My mom always made meal plans and we always had a cooked dinner. Now that they kids are all out, they never have food and eat out all the time.

  9. 1. It's always the girls and I, from time to time my mom tags along.

    2. Nope

    3. If he does, I don't care! (divorced)

    4. Rotate, definately!

    5. My mom does the shopping alone, unless the girls and I go with her. My dad shops online only.

31 for 21: What to say

I have encountered plenty of people who ask "How old is she?" when Braska and I are out together here and there. They always guess her age about 5 months younger than she is, but that's ok, since that's what size she is. I have said several times that I can imagine it will bother me a bit more, although still not a huge deal, when she turns one next month and I see their reaction to that, as she still is in her car seat/carrier when we're in a restaurant or in a store since she doesn't sit up. Today, I met some friends for brunch. The waitress was a nice enough, very young girl, and she started cooing at Braska right away. That's nice. I don't mind, Braska likes the attention, and I'm proud of my cutie. The waitress asked her age, and I told her 11 months. She then said, "But she's not walking yet?" as she noticed that she was up to the table in her car seat/carrier. I just agreed and said, "Not yet." She said she h

Little call, big letters

This will make more sense to you DS moms and families out there... I apologize for the cryptic nature, but you'll have to trust my reasoning. Braska had a lab draw on Tuesday last week. The GI called me Wednesday and said there were some significantly elevated levels in the results. Ok fine. Not like we've never had an abnormal lab. But then he used *those* words...the C word and the L word. Said he'd be talking to hem/onc. We needed to go redraw on Friday morning. We didn't freak or anything, but when I hung up the phone, I thought, "Wow, so that's what it's like the first time they mention it." We took her for her draw again on Friday morning, and we figured everything was fine since we got no call over the weekend. Yesterday I checked in with them. Dr. R confirmed that everything was clear, almost in a "weird way," but they checked with the lab to make sure it was a viable result. All is well. Follow up in 6 months as usual unle

Can I get a do-over?

If you are in need of a laugh at another's expense, I invite you to read on... really, it's totally ok. I can take it. This might end up long, but I wanna remember this special day. Oh so special... Today is my first day to have both girls and be on my own. Yeah, it's been two weeks, but I'm apparently slow at learning how to deal with this kind of thing. I knew it would be a challenge, but I thought with starting way early, we could make it. The quick ending is that we did make it...but that's not really the whole story. Kinlee's been sleeping til about 9 am or so after getting up twice in the night. That's ok, I'm dealing with it. But since Braska is supposed to be at school at 10 am on Mondays, I thought I better not sleep in like I prefer, and instead, I should get up and get things moving earlier to be sure we're on time. Not a problem, since Braska decided to be up twice last night in addition to Kinlee's two times. One time overlapped...so
