IFSP fun

I just put up some info on our IFSP meeting from Monday on Braska's blog. It went well. I feel like we're in a good spot.

And let me say, that's no small thing. It's nice to feel like some aspect of life is in good shape and under control. It's not like my life is bad, no way. Just that it's good to be able to check one more thing off. Braska's in good hands, and we have a good plan. I'm thankful for our team, and I appreciate how much they like my girl!

You moms or parents who have the privilege of doing these IFSP/IEP meetings...do you like them, dread them, go with the flow, or have a planned agenda of things to accomplish and change at each one? Apparently, some parents never have much input, just going with whatever the team says. It's good to trust your team, but I'm surprised that the parents wouldn't have things to say in regards to what they want for their child that the therapists may not be privy to.

Just curious...

  1. I hate these meetings. Absolutely without a doubt detest the meeting, the planning, the ridiculous questions, grrrr.

We have a wonderful team of OT, SLP, Instructional aide from group therapy, family resource coordinator, and nutritionist. They are great.

The process is horrible, the system doesn't work, there just isn't enough resources. And I have no idea what a "6 month goal" for fine motor blah, blah would be. No idea.

Tommy progresses when he wants to. And is doing a great job. And the therapies help. But if he isn't ready to progress he won't. And yet goal setting is required.

And I get emotional in these meetings, I am a crier and there is nothing to stop it.

  2. I don't have a problem with IFSP meetings. We have a good team. I'm usually prepared with several goals in mind, and I know exactly where Liam is in terms of development. I lead the meeting, not my team, and they just make suggestions if needed.

I suppose it's different for every family they visit, but they know that we're on top of everything so they let us control what's going on.

  3. I don't mind them, other than the trying to schedule them part. I usually have a few goals to add or ask about. I usually agree with what they suggest and like our team.

  4. I write my own goals for Vi, and let them tell me what they want to change. Being a third time mom I think helps me know what should be coming up next.

I don't love em or hate em. I think it is good to have goals to I know what to focus on, and what sort of things to try to incorporate into our day to day life.

I probably review the goals after 3 months just to see where we are and what we need to focus on. So far I've been pleased with the progress she's made!

Oh happy day, Less question mark!

As a follow up to yesterday's post, I got word today that we will NOT be assigned to the new guy, but we will have an experienced coordinator after all. I feel SO much better. I also learned some other info today that made me think I still have some kinks to work out, so I'll be taking care of that this next week. I'll be SO glad when this transition/IEP stuff is behind us. I want to do the very best I can, but there's part of me who wants to just hide and let it all happen without me.

31 for 21: What to say

I have encountered plenty of people who ask "How old is she?" when Braska and I are out together here and there. They always guess her age about 5 months younger than she is, but that's ok, since that's what size she is. I have said several times that I can imagine it will bother me a bit more, although still not a huge deal, when she turns one next month and I see their reaction to that, as she still is in her car seat/carrier when we're in a restaurant or in a store since she doesn't sit up. Today, I met some friends for brunch. The waitress was a nice enough, very young girl, and she started cooing at Braska right away. That's nice. I don't mind, Braska likes the attention, and I'm proud of my cutie. The waitress asked her age, and I told her 11 months. She then said, "But she's not walking yet?" as she noticed that she was up to the table in her car seat/carrier. I just agreed and said, "Not yet." She said she h

Was there a line??

I assume that you went to vote, either today or earlier if possible. I expect that of you, know that straight up. How long did you wait in line?? And throw in the state you voted in, just for fun. I'm really curious if all areas have a big wait or if it's just the more congested ones. I voted Friday absentee/in person, and we waited about 15 mins or so. It moved VERY fast for a big line. There's just one place in our very populated county to do the absentee/in person voting, and it wasn't bad at all for what I thought it might be. If you haven't, GO VOTE people... again, please just know what you're voting for, either way. You may just have to live with your choice. God Bless America!!
