Hot and early

Braska woke and talked/moaned this morning at about 4:30am. This is not unusual.  She does this frequently, usually lasting a few minutes before she falls asleep once again.

But this morning she didn’t quiet as quickly as I’d hoped, and when I went to check on her about 4:45am, I reached into her crib and met what felt like fresh-baked toddler.  She was warm, very warm. Warmer than I’ve ever experienced with her, as far as how her skin felt.  I took her out of the crib and walked out to the living room where the thermometer had been last night.  Of course I couldn’t find it—thank you to Kinlee who loves to move or hid everything right now—so I went back to our bedroom and gave her to M while I hunted for the thermometer and got her some ibuprofen.  We took off her sleeper and gave her some water and ibuprofen via tube.  She wasn’t all that uncomfortable, it seemed, just VERY hot to touch.

Her hands were the weirdest part to me.  She would reach out and hold my hand or touch my leg, and it felt very bizarre to have that little tiny mitt be so strangely warm.

Her nose was once again all gummed up, practically closed with dried goo, so I cleaned her up, did saline drops and suction, and then we went out to the living room to read a couple books while I waited to see if her temp dropped after the meds.  I checked it again after about 30 minutes, and she was on the way down, thankfully.  I put her in a t-shirt and she went back to sleep on my shoulder in no time.  Back into her bed just before 6am.

I decided I’d stay up. Thought I’d hit the treadmill, but then I got distracted with a digiscrap blog train and downloading tons of goodies after it popped up in my Reader.

She got up about 7:15am and has seemed ok.  No school today, so she’s not happy with me about that.  She tells me in the morning “School today!” and does her little clap and pat routine that they do to the welcome song.  And if I tell her we’re not going, she is very frowny for a bit.

I’m going to be talking to the pediatrician(s) today. (We saw a different one on Sat, so we’re kind of following with her on our current path, though we’re a patient of the other.)  I’ll be requesting a blood draw to just check to make sure nothing is out of whack.  Something is off. There’s just not much reason for fever like this mid-antibiotic course.

She is bearing weight a little better this morning, walking some short bits, 4 or 5 steps at a time.  But she is still preferring to be on her rear.  We’ll see how the day goes.

  1. I hope Braska starts feeling better. Allergies are in full swing. I have to take Zyrtec daily AND use Omnaris nasal spray as mine affect me pretty harshly. My normal temp is between 97.9 and 98.1 and I run a temp of about 99.5 to about 100.4 with allergies. For some reason those darn things make me feel HORRIBLE. I wonder if that's what Braska is experiencing? Praying for relief for the both of you!

31 for 21: What to say

I have encountered plenty of people who ask "How old is she?" when Braska and I are out together here and there. They always guess her age about 5 months younger than she is, but that's ok, since that's what size she is. I have said several times that I can imagine it will bother me a bit more, although still not a huge deal, when she turns one next month and I see their reaction to that, as she still is in her car seat/carrier when we're in a restaurant or in a store since she doesn't sit up. Today, I met some friends for brunch. The waitress was a nice enough, very young girl, and she started cooing at Braska right away. That's nice. I don't mind, Braska likes the attention, and I'm proud of my cutie. The waitress asked her age, and I told her 11 months. She then said, "But she's not walking yet?" as she noticed that she was up to the table in her car seat/carrier. I just agreed and said, "Not yet." She said she h...

Can I get a do-over?

If you are in need of a laugh at another's expense, I invite you to read on... really, it's totally ok. I can take it. This might end up long, but I wanna remember this special day. Oh so special... Today is my first day to have both girls and be on my own. Yeah, it's been two weeks, but I'm apparently slow at learning how to deal with this kind of thing. I knew it would be a challenge, but I thought with starting way early, we could make it. The quick ending is that we did make it...but that's not really the whole story. Kinlee's been sleeping til about 9 am or so after getting up twice in the night. That's ok, I'm dealing with it. But since Braska is supposed to be at school at 10 am on Mondays, I thought I better not sleep in like I prefer, and instead, I should get up and get things moving earlier to be sure we're on time. Not a problem, since Braska decided to be up twice last night in addition to Kinlee's two times. One time overlapped...so...

Little call, big letters

This will make more sense to you DS moms and families out there... I apologize for the cryptic nature, but you'll have to trust my reasoning. Braska had a lab draw on Tuesday last week. The GI called me Wednesday and said there were some significantly elevated levels in the results. Ok fine. Not like we've never had an abnormal lab. But then he used *those* words...the C word and the L word. Said he'd be talking to hem/onc. We needed to go redraw on Friday morning. We didn't freak or anything, but when I hung up the phone, I thought, "Wow, so that's what it's like the first time they mention it." We took her for her draw again on Friday morning, and we figured everything was fine since we got no call over the weekend. Yesterday I checked in with them. Dr. R confirmed that everything was clear, almost in a "weird way," but they checked with the lab to make sure it was a viable result. All is well. Follow up in 6 months as usual unle...
