Made it to 8 years

Happy Anniversary, M. Go Team!

Today's our 8th anniversary. I went back to see what I wrote about our 7th last year, and I didn't even post for a few days around it. But I suppose I'm not surprised after all. The last two anniversaries have not been all that happy, actually a little painful. So the fact that I'm posting is good, I guess, and the day looks promising. Is it about the day itself? No, of course not.

This year the achievement is that we've spent the whole year together, as a family, working toward the same goals, and re-learning how to be married in a much healthier way. We've got a long way to go, but we've come SO far from the darkest days. There have been alot of things happening this past year, but we've made it through pretty well.

Today we're going to work on the house and go to dinner this evening. M offered to do some honey-do type things that are not his favorite, so that's very helpful. We'll get some things done that need to be, and that sure sounds good to me.

It's no small thing these days to be committed to a marriage. We've made it to this point with the help of many and in spite of a few. I had to find a new me in order to get here and remain sane. It's no longer about being a pushover or look-the-other-way kind of wife. I'm committed to this family. I have found a strength, and a balance between patience and courage. I pray to maintain that balance every night. I've still got alot to learn, but the future looks brighter than the past, and that's all I can ask for. I've learned not to take the little things for granted any longer.

God has given us countless little miracles to bring us back to this place. Here's to another positive year.

  1. Happy Anniversary and congrats on making it through another year. We've had our ups and downs and in-betweens too in the last 14 1/2 yrs, sometimes it was rough-but always worth it. I commend you and your husband for not just throwing in the towel and walking away. I hope this is the first day of a terrific year together :)

  4. Eight years. Amazing. 11:11 am just passed, but here's a "belated" happy anniversary from the preacher who looked at his watch and said, "Now I pronounce..."!

So glad for the progress and commitment you talk about in the post.

I hate to be so truthful, but one of these days you'll turn around and Braska will be grown (as will lil sis and all those other kids) and you'll say, where did our days as a young couple go??????????????

This old man speaks from experience.....ENJOY AND MAKE THE MOST OF EVERY DAY!

  6. Happy anniversary guys...my favorite marriage advice: marriage is a strange and wonderful commitment - she's wonderful and he's strange!

That piece of advice always makes me smile in the rough spots!

  13. Happy Anniversary. Marriage isn't easy and whoever says it is lies like a cheap rug.. I have been married for 10 years and with my husband for 13 years. We have had our moments, but I watched a memeber of my family go through 3 marriages and I decided I was going to do what ever it takes to make this work. I am very happy for you and M.. He is a cool guy and I wish the best for you and your family.. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY again.

  15. hmmmm, I'm so with you! In fact I could've almost written this myself, except for the fact that I do not have that way with words that you have...
"The future looks brighter than the past and that's all I can ask for" - Amen to that! I admire your strength, and love your patience; they are both very obviously God-given.
Happy Anniversary, my friend! And may I say you look beautiful in the picture above this post...
Blooming in fact - pregnancy suits you :o)

Oh happy day, Less question mark!

As a follow up to yesterday's post, I got word today that we will NOT be assigned to the new guy, but we will have an experienced coordinator after all. I feel SO much better. I also learned some other info today that made me think I still have some kinks to work out, so I'll be taking care of that this next week. I'll be SO glad when this transition/IEP stuff is behind us. I want to do the very best I can, but there's part of me who wants to just hide and let it all happen without me.

31 for 21: What to say

I have encountered plenty of people who ask "How old is she?" when Braska and I are out together here and there. They always guess her age about 5 months younger than she is, but that's ok, since that's what size she is. I have said several times that I can imagine it will bother me a bit more, although still not a huge deal, when she turns one next month and I see their reaction to that, as she still is in her car seat/carrier when we're in a restaurant or in a store since she doesn't sit up. Today, I met some friends for brunch. The waitress was a nice enough, very young girl, and she started cooing at Braska right away. That's nice. I don't mind, Braska likes the attention, and I'm proud of my cutie. The waitress asked her age, and I told her 11 months. She then said, "But she's not walking yet?" as she noticed that she was up to the table in her car seat/carrier. I just agreed and said, "Not yet." She said she h

Was there a line??

I assume that you went to vote, either today or earlier if possible. I expect that of you, know that straight up. How long did you wait in line?? And throw in the state you voted in, just for fun. I'm really curious if all areas have a big wait or if it's just the more congested ones. I voted Friday absentee/in person, and we waited about 15 mins or so. It moved VERY fast for a big line. There's just one place in our very populated county to do the absentee/in person voting, and it wasn't bad at all for what I thought it might be. If you haven't, GO VOTE people... again, please just know what you're voting for, either way. You may just have to live with your choice. God Bless America!!
